More than 100 healthcare professionals, researchers and community partners gathered in Newcastle in November for the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) Deep End Network event, Embracing the Neighbourhood Opportunity: Turning National Strategy into Local Action at the Deep End. Delegates explored how neighbourhood health approaches can better support communities experiencing the greatest health inequalities.
The event featured presentations from leaders across primary care, public health, pharmacy, dentistry and emergency medicine, showcasing progress across the Deep End Network and highlighting opportunities for collaboration to improve health outcomes.
A key part of the day was a series of facilitated discussions, where participants shared their experiences of working in underserved communities. Conversations focused on the need for stronger connections between services, improved awareness of local support, and greater involvement of Deep End communities in shaping neighbourhood health models
Delegates agreed that tackling health inequalities requires collaborative, place-based approaches that reflect the needs of local populations. The discussions also highlighted the important role Deep End practices can play in helping to shape and deliver neighbourhood health services in the future.
The event provided an important opportunity to bring together colleagues from across the region, share learning, and continue building momentum for a fairer and more inclusive healthcare system.
